The Minot Optimist Club and United Community Bank are teaming up to spread their mission of giving back to the community and are encouraging area businesses to help gather pjs, pillows, twin sheets or monetary funds in support of the DVCC.
In honor of their 40th anniversary, Minot Optimists are challenging area businesses to hold a product drive at their place of business or make a donation to support nights of safety at the Domestic Violence Crisis Center. The Minot DVCC has determined that one night of safety is worth $40. The Optimists are using #minotoptimists40for40 to challenge area businesses.
To help the Optimists celebrate, United Community Bank will be hosting a pajama party for kids of all ages and their families at 10am on March 9. Party attendees can wear their pajamas and will be treated to a behind the scenes tour of the bank, popcorn, story time, and a visit from Tank the Tauro. Those attending are encouraged to bring a donation for the DVCC.
In 2017, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) sheltered 119 women, 73 children and responded to 1,173 crisis calls. Services are free and confidential and include 24-hour crisis lines, 24-hour emergency shelter for fleeing victims, and support groups for women and children who have experienced domestic and/or sexual assault. The women and children who enter the emergency shelter often come with no belongings and providing pajamas and bedding is an essential part of providing them comfort.
